NIGERIA DEMOCRACY: THE INCOMPLETE STORY OF THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB BY: REP. ADEMORIN KUYE
June 12, 2021

June 12, 1993 was the anointed and special day in which Nigerians home and abroad thought they would henceforth heave a sigh of relief from the oppressed Military rulers in our nation. The day that beckoned on the whole world that Nigeria was going to take a new shape. The day that brought together all the tribes that make up Nigeria.

Wonderful indeed!
That day, the Hausas, Igbos, Yorubas, Kanuris, Fulanis and so on came together to speak in one unique voice, devoid of hatred and enviness, and voted massively for Late Chief MKO Abiola; the envisioned Messiah that the power that be never allowed to come to reality. The dream and national happiness which was never allowed to surface.

Chief MKO Abiola died for Nigeria to have peace, Baba Kola died to humble the powerless empowered soldiers. Moshood Kasimawo Olawale Abiola died to pave way for the 22 years old democracy we all are enjoying today.

Any story written regarding our democracy in Nigeria is incomplete without mentioning or giving honour to the great sacrificial lamb; MKO. He fought terribly, powerfully, ceaselessly, and selflessly with the hope that the positive and progressive vision which Millions of Nigerians had would come to reality after the struggle, which never did.

This is a great reminder to all and sundry, leaders, public servants etc. to always remember that democracy did not just come to us on a platter of gold, Chief MKO Abiola, and some other Nigerian heroes and heroines fought tirelessly to the extent of losing their lives.

I urge us all to always keep to our campaign promises, let’s build a Nation which stands strong on a rock of real integrity, honesty, truthfulness and fulfilment of progressive visions.

Let’s all come together, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. We are members of one big family, together we are strong, divided we are weak and destabilized.

Lt. MKO Abiola

I join millions of Nigerians worldwide to remember this great President Nigeria never had, and to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of the return of democracy to our nation Nigeria while not forgetting what that struggle represents in our lives.

Long live Somolu Federal Constituency
Long live Lagos State
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Happy celebrations!

REP. ADEMORIN A. KUYE
MHR, SOMOLU FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY
